Blue Building for the Middle East
As a good friend and advisor, Mel Stewart has given his support to The-Environmentalist’s environmental technology since 2005.
Mel, a Civil Engineer, joined Sir William Halcrow & Partners in 1968 working in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Oman and the UAE. From 1983 to 1998 he was the Middle East Regional Managing Director of Halcrow Middle East.
From 1998 to 2008 he was Engineering Advisor to His Highness Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi the Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and Member of the Federal Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates. Mel was responsible for the development and implementation of Sharjah infrastructure projects such as highways, ports, airports, water supply, sewerage, government buildings and free zone developments. Mel was also the point of contact with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for the British community and various churches and schools in Sharjah.
Since 2009 he has been Special Advisor to Halcrow, then CH2M and now Jacobs.
In 1991, he received the Order of the British Empire for services to British commercial interests in the UAE. In the same year, he was awarded ‘The Key to Sharjah’ by HH the Ruler for services to Sharjah Emirate.

Married to The-Environmentalist, Melanie Stegmann has been supporting his visions and work since 1999. For more than 10 years, Melanie has been Shareholder - Managing Director of Blue Building Foundation in Sharjah, and since 2020, she is assisting The-Environmentalist in setting up the Blue Building business in Scotland.
Melanie is responsible for all administrative tasks within the logistical operations for the projects, human resources, coordinating purchases locally as well as internationally, and daily correspondence with international Partners and Suppliers. Furthermore, Melanie oversees all public communications, including those on social media.
